Break O Day Family

Families in Break O’Day can share stories at local libraries, explore council playgrounds, join an early-learning program or help a young person build driving experience. Parenting, relationship and carer support is also available through services covering the region.

✨ Play, stories and early learning

Building Blocks

Based at Fingal Valley Neighbourhood House, Building Blocks is a free early-learning and parenting-support program for families with children aged 0–8 in North East Tasmania. Phone the House on (03) 6374 2344 for current program details.

St Helens Library

Preschool children can take part in library activities, while families can check separate local event and training listings for other opportunities. The library is wheelchair accessible. Preschool sessions may require booking through Eventbrite or by phoning (03) 6387 5600.

St Marys Library

Read Sing Create runs on alternate Tuesdays during school terms, giving preschool children an opportunity to enjoy stories, songs and creative activities. The library is wheelchair accessible; phone (03) 6387 5602 for event bookings and enquiries.

Break O’Day Council Playgrounds

Thirteen council-managed playgrounds across the municipality provide outdoor play options for different age groups. Children need adult supervision. Dogs are prohibited, and smoking is not permitted within 10 metres of play equipment.

Break O’Day Anglican Church Kids Program

A children’s program is available during the parish’s Sunday 9.30 am service in St Helens. Families can contact the parish on (03) 6376 1144 with questions about participation.

Get in2 Gear Learner Driver Mentor Program

Learner drivers working towards a provisional licence can apply for mentoring coordinated by Break O’Day Council. Volunteer mentors help participants understand road rules, develop safe driving habits and complete supervised on-road hours. Eligibility applies; phone Council on (03) 6376 7900 for application enquiries.

Relationships Australia Tasmania

This statewide organisation supports Tasmanian parents and families with parenting, separation, relationships and wellbeing. Family-violence-and-trauma support is also available. Appointments are booked by calling 1300 364 277.

Carer Gateway

Unpaid carers looking after a family member or friend with disability, illness, mental ill-health or age-related frailty can seek support through this Australian Government service. Depending on eligibility and individual planning, options may include counselling, peer support, coaching, tailored support packages, and planned or emergency respite. Call 1800 422 737 to connect with a local service provider.
